QuickCal App Reviews

Speeds up appointment creation!

The 3.1.1 update fixes some bugs with parsing that were introduced in the 3.1 release. It appears to be working properly now. I use QuickCal to create several appointments for work each day, and it saves me a lot of time compared to entering them in iCal or on Googles web interface. Entering the calendar name instead of the appointment in QuickCals dialog box will switch the calendar used to create appointment.

Great App!

I use it continuously throughout the day for both business and personal calendar management, and it makes adding events *much* more efficient!

QuickCal support provides quick reply!

In QuickCal 3.1 I was unable to create any events because the "create event" button was not working. I contacted QuickCal support and, on that very same day, I was informed that QuickCal 3.1.1 was released to the App Store. After I installed version 3.1.1 my "create event" issue was completely resolved. What I particularly like about QuickCal is that by simply using natural language, you can create fast and efficient calendar entries.

No Recuirring Reminders / Poor Support

QuickCals menubar menu continues to refuse to display recurring reminder/to-do items after several iterations, a serious glitch in the program that has resulted in missed conference calls on two occasions. Support has not responded to three emails over as many weeks requesting support. Odd, as developer has been responsive before, which leaves this user in the dark and wondering. Blithely ignoring repeated support requests is, IMO, sufficient reason to warrant looking around for an alternative app. At this point, QuickCal is a promising program with a major flaw and a repeatedly unresponsive developer, hence the rating.

What reminders?

I havent been able to get the reminders to work since I purchased this (months ago). Ive patiently waited for a proper update. Ive fiddled with the preferences and everything. I cant get alerts to work either. Where is the support?

Outstanding app!!! Saves so much time!!!

This is by far the most useful app for quickly entering events in your calendar. Simple and powerful. I now use it all the time.

Apps like this are the reason I love apple computers

Beautifully polished, works perfectly. I love the context setting of it (ie type Shopping and press enter and then its in the shopping context).

Simple, elegant, perfect

Tried the rest and QuickCal is the best and the price cant be beat. Best solution for the keyboard jockey who likes to keep their fingers on the home row. LaunchBar integration is sweet and the display of upcoming events is clear and fast. Get it now!

Simple. Elegant. Effective.

I was looking for a simple way to add calendar items and found this amazing app. So simple, incredibly intuitive, pretty to look at, and absolutely effective. Absolutely worth the price! You can tell the deveoper really loves this app and put a lot of care and attention into it. Thanks!

So far so great...

Ive tried just about every calendar app in every strength from "project management strength" down to simple widgets. This app is the best and most intuitive thus far.

Lack of reliable Hot Key function limits usefulness

While Quickcals ease of use is a nice supplement to iCal, its tiresome to have to launch the program fromt the dock in order to use it. Theres supposed to be a hot key function that allows you to launch immediately from anywhere but its buggy and it hasnt been fixed yet. Until it is, this app is a bit of a disappointment.

Integrates with Google Calendar Very Nicely

I have been using the dashboard widget version of this for years now. Recently I decided to switch from iCal to Google Calendar and hopped online looking for a way to integrate QuickCal with Google Calendar, and to my surprise, QuickCals desktop app already supported Google Calendar. This app is easily worth $3.

Just what the doctor ordered

I was about to start building exactly this app when I thoguht I should first check to see if someone had already made it. GLad I did. Works like a charm. Hit Command+Shift+C to create a new event with natural language. Hit return to add the event instantly. Click in to preferences to only Sync and show your Gmail calender. Auto growl reminders 5 mins before the event for every event entered. Discreet little icon in the toolbar showing upcoming apointments. Great job.

One of my favorite menubar apps, however...

After trying out several calendar applications, I liked this one the best. Its one of the few menubar apps that I consult several times a day. However there is one problem, it quits unexpectedly. Ill mouse up to the menu bar only to find that the icon isnt there. Launching the app restores it… for a while. This app will deserve five-stars, when they get it fixed.

Unreliable

v 3.1.2:Parsing is still weak and unreliable. I entered an event starting a week from today and it tried to parse it as a week long event. On the other hand, iCal/Calendar parsed it perfectly. Im gonna uninstall Quickcal. And even when I select Last used calendar as the default, it adds events to a calendar I havent used in a year, and which isnt set to display in iCal. v.2.5.1:Theyve fixed Google Calendar integration, which is a major upgrade, and which got me to actually use this on a regular basis. Unfortunately the language parsing is not so good. I just entered "2pm Friday student" and 1st it created an entry at 2pm on Friday with the title "Friday" (apparently losing the word "student" altogether - it doesnt appear in the entry. Tried again to see if it would catch the conflict & it created an entry at 2pm on Friday with the title "2pm". If you start with the description its fine, but if you start with the time it doesnt seem to parse correctly. update: I noticed this morning on my home computer that QuickCal showed none of the four appointments that I had today. Now on my work computer - with the latest update - its having the same problem. Google Calendar integration doesnt seem to be working in practice :(

Most-used helper app

Quickcal is my favorite small helper app. I use it a dozen times a day or more. It saves an enormous amount of time. Good app.

Week number

Please make week number in menu bar icon

Ok with iCal but not others

It works ok with iCal but doesnt integrate with the default calendar - it is hardwired to launch iCal. Lousy support, no website for support. I stopped using Quickcal when I went to BusyCal...

Good App, No Recurring Reminder Support

Any recurring reminder checked as completed in QuickCal will not result in QuickCal scheduling the next reminder. The completed recurring reminder will behave as any other completed one-time reminder. This is really the only flaw in an otherwise useful and inexpensive app.

Love it

I have tried a few calendar programs and finally settled on QuickCal: easy to use, very customozable. Feature request: (1) the ability to remove events from menu bar. I still have to open Calendar a few times a day, as I like to remove events when they are done.
